Originally settled by working class immigrants, this
neighborhood started out as a humble low cost home for people from the County
of Cork in Ireland. It still remains as one of the most affordable downtown
Toronto neighbourhoods and has recently become popular with young professionals
who found the live-in work studios very convenient.
As of now, the Queen and Parliament streets are the main
shopping areas in Corktown. St. Lawrence Market, which is Toronto’s premiere
food market, is within walking distance.
